1 person found dead after fire in suspected Airbnb home in Miami; 1 person arrested in investigation for possible arson – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – Police have arrested one person in an investigation into a deadly fire that broke out overnight at a Miami home, which is believed to have been arson.

7News cameras captured smoke rising from the building early Sunday morning as flames ripped through a rear area of the building.

“I jumped out of bed because I heard all the fire alarms from the trucks right in front of our house,” said resident Frank Dunbar, “and when I looked out the window, I could see flames.”

Miami City Police and Fire Department units arrived at the scene of the fire near Southwest 13th Street and 30th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m.

“Miami Engine 7 has arrived. We have a single-family home, heavy smoke and flames on the Bravo side of the building, Level 1 fire,” a first responder said over the radio.

Emergency services worked to extinguish the flames.

“No other damage except the back, power is off. The entire back of the building is affected,” a first responder said over the radio.

When firefighters entered the building complex, they found a dead person inside.

“Downed power lines on the Charlie side. Stay off the Charlie side,” a first responder said in a radio message.

Police confirmed the arrest of one person who is currently being questioned.

“We think it’s an Airbnb. There are always other people, other cars,” said local resident Pablo Rodrígues.

Hours after the fire broke out, the neighbors are still in shock.

“I have never seen anything like this here,” said Rodrígues.

“Crazy, but it’s true – a lot of people come to Miami to visit and I know it’s an Airbnb, so who knows who comes in and out of the house?” Dunbar said.

Officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said they were assisting Miami police and firefighters in the investigation.

Investigators did not release any further information about the victim or the person as they attempt to determine the cause of the fire and death.
