Wanda Maximoff is one of the most powerful members of the Avengersmeaning she was the one who had to make a huge sacrifice to stop Thanos when all seemed lost.

In the end, it was all for nothing, as Thanos used the Time Stone to bring Vision back to life and retrieve the Mind Stone before killing him again.

9 The Scarlet Witch has cursed Westview because of her grief

After the two Avengers films concluded the MCU’s Infinity Saga, Wanda Maximoff’s story continued in her first project as a main character. Olsen joined Disney+’s WandaVisionwith the Scarlet Witch’s grief over Vision’s death and the trauma she went through when she tried to kill him to save the universe, leading to a major event. Wanda Maximoff’s grief and her powers mixed and caused her to place a curse on the town of Westview.

Wanda went to Westview after seeing Vision’s body at SWORD headquarters. Vision had bought a property in Westview where they could live together.


WandaVision would explore many different eras of television, while Scarlet Witch created a reality similar to the television shows she had watched as a child that provided her with comfort. Wanda had no intention of casting a spell over all the residents of Westviewbut her grief and chaos magic were so powerful that when she released them, the entire city was engulfed in it.

7 Wanda Maximoff trapped Agatha Harkness in Westview and left her powerless

Over time, WandaVision revealed that the true villain of the series was Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness. The character was summoned to Westview because of the powerful energy she emitted. She disguised herself as the “curious neighbor” Agnesgets closer to Wanda and manipulates many events, for example she lets Evan Peters’ Ralph Bohner pretend to be Quicksilver. Agatha’s true intention was to use the Scarlet Witch’s powerful chaos magic for herself.

At the end of the series, Hahn’s Agatha is defeated by Wanda, who fully embraces her heritage as the Scarlet Witch, complete with a new superhero costume. As punishment Wanda robbed Agatha of her magic and left her trapped in Westview as her Agnes persona. When she realized that her corrupted state frightened her children, Wanda saw the error in her behavior.

Agatha Harkness brought the Darkhold to Westview, hoping to use the book of black magic to control Wanda’s Hex and remain undetected in Westview. After Agatha was defeated by the Scarlet Witch, Wanda took over the Darkholdto read the book and be seduced by it, the more she used it in both WandaVisionSeries finale and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.


The Darkhold allowed Wanda and other characters to dreamwalk — take control of multiverse variants of themselves — in the Doctor Strange Continued. After a wizard destroyed the Darkhold and died in Kamar-Taj, Wanda went to Mount Wundagore where the Darkhold had been transferred into the walls. Realizing that she was scaring her children and that what she was doing was wrong, Scarlet Witch used her powers to destroy all copies of the Darkhold in the multiverse.
