16-year-old girl tried to murder two men in San Mateo Park: police

SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA – A 16-year-old girl is charged with attempted murder after two men were stabbed to death in Los Prados Park, San Mateo police said.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. on Thursday to a report that the girl was being held on the ground by a group of witnesses, police said in a news release Friday.

The teenager was still holding a knife in her right hand when officers restrained her arms. She fought back violently and bit an officer who tried to take the knife from her hand, police said.

Officers were told the girl had a knife in her hand when she began yelling at a man. When he tried to walk away, she began waving the weapon, police said.

The victim raised his hands to protect his face and was stabbed in the hand. A witness who tried to intervene was also stabbed in the hand, police said.

The two men managed to hold the teenager until the police arrived.

In addition to attempted murder, the teenager is also accused of assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated resisting an officer, assault on a peace officer and assault on a person, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the San Mateo Police Department.
