2 police officers injured, suspect killed at gas station

FORNEY, TexasTwo police officers were shot and a suspect is dead after a shooting at a gas station in Forney early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 3 a.m., a panic alarm went off at an Exxon gas station on FM 741, just off I-20.

The sheriff told FOX 4 that officers responded by radio that they had an armed suspect held at gunpoint at the gas pumps.

A Crandall police officer and a Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputy who responded to the alarm were shot. Both were shot in the leg.

The suspect was also shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The injuries of both officers are not life-threatening.

“They are OK. We thank the good Lord that He is watching over our officers,” said Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers.

Beavers told FOX 4 that both officers were taken to a Dallas hospital.

The MP was released from hospital on Saturday evening.

FOX 4 crews discovered multiple bullet holes in a truck and a gun near the gas pumps.

The investigators did not provide any further details about the reason for the panic alarm.

FOX 4 spoke to a brother and sister who live in the area. They say they stop at this gas station all the time.

“I was shocked because not many bad things happen in this area. In my opinion, it is always very safe here, so it was really shocking,” said Sharon Maldonado.

The two say they didn’t even hear any gunshots in the area.

“I find this really unfortunate. I hope all the families are OK. Even the family of the suspect, the man who was shot, is OK. I just hope the best for everyone,” said Kevin Maldonado.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputy has been on the force for over 10 years. The Crandall police officer has been on the force for three years.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.
