Just 12 months after Team Europe defended the Solheim Cup in Spain, the biennial team event returns this week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. The line-up of both teams is largely the same as last autumn at Finca Cortesin, when the two teams played out a 14-14 draw – and for that we can all be thankful. If the excitement is anywhere near as high as last time, golf fans are in for a treat.

Solheim Cup Preview

Looking at the matchup on paper, you might assume that Team USA is the clear favorite. They have the two best players in the world in Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu, and half of their roster is ranked in the top 25 in the world (as opposed to just two for Team Europe). But Team Europe has regularly proven that it is more than the sum of its parts – and this year should be no different.

Team Europe pulled off an epic comeback during Sunday Singles last year to defend the Cup, meaning the Europeans have not lost in the event since 2017. In fact, Team USA has only two players (Lexi Thompson and Alison Lee) who have ever been part of a winning Solheim Cup team.

The betting markets may favor the USA as they look to defend their home soil, but make no mistake – the European team is no pushover. Expect the decision to come down to the final few games on Sunday afternoon.

Why does the Solheim Cup take place every year in a row?

If you’re wondering why the biennial event is coming back so soon, you’re not alone. While the Solheim Cup is normally held every two years, due to scheduling conflicts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will be held in two consecutive years.

When the Ryder Cup was postponed for a year during the pandemic, it meant that the most important team competitions for both the men And Women were to take place in the same year. In order to be able to hold the event in Ryder Cup interim years in the future, the Solheim Cup decided to hold the event in consecutive years.

TV program of the Solheim Cup 2024

The 2024 Solheim Cup will be televised by NBC and Golf Channel. Golf Channel will broadcast in-depth coverage on all three days of the tournament, while NBC will provide late-round coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
