3 cases of Legionnaires’ disease linked to resort and RV park in Missouri

CASSVILLE, Missouri (KFVS) – Three reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease are linked to a resort and RV park in Missouri.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, guests who recently visited the Roaring River Lodge and RV Park in Cassville should be aware of a potential health risk.

The hotel is located at 23359 State Highway 112 in Cassville.

The DHSS reports that three innocent people who were there in July were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease within 14 days of their stay.

You can contract Legionnaires’ disease, a serious form of pneumonia, by breathing in small water droplets that contain Legionella bacteria. The disease is not usually transmitted to other people.

According to the DHSS, samples were taken and preliminary results showed the presence of the bacteria in the water supply.

The investigation is ongoing and confirmed results are expected later this week. They say they are working with Roaring River Lodge to improve the facility’s water system to kill the Legionella bacteria.

According to DHSS, the resort said it will begin notifying all guests who recently stayed in the hotel portion of the property.

Symptoms usually begin 2-10 days after infection, but it may take longer, so people should monitor for symptoms for about two weeks.

If you develop symptoms of pneumonia within two weeks of staying at, working at, or visiting Roaring River Lodge, you should seek medical attention immediately.
