PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police are searching for four armed robbery suspects after about $100,000 was stolen from a store in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood on Saturday night.

It happened just before 10 p.m. at a store called Emporio Latino Grocery in the 2800 block of Tyson Avenue. Local residents say the store serves the Brazilian community and offers local specialties.

According to police, three female employees were leaving the store through the back door when they were approached by four armed men.

“As one of the employees attempted to leave the store through the back door, four assailants entered the store,” said Captain Jack Ryan of the Philadelphia police.

At this point, the suspects allegedly forced those present back into the store.

One of the suspects is said to have attacked a victim after everyone was back inside.

A resident told Action News she heard screaming and called 911.

Investigators say the suspects stole the victims’ cell phones and $100,000 from a safe. The business reportedly offers check cashing and money transfer services, hence the large amount of cash.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene down Braus Avenue in a vehicle that police described as a gray Honda with dark tint and black wheels.

The victims, who police said were all women between the ages of 35 and 45, were later able to find their phones in the 2900 block of Princeton Street.

According to investigators, the thieves waited until the male employees left the store.

“It appears the robbers were familiar with the daily routine at the store,” Ryan said.

No arrests have been made and no weapons were found at the scene. Police say they are checking surveillance cameras in the area to locate the suspects.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the police.
