4 children shot in Houston home; masked gunmen may be teenagers

HOUSTON – Four children, ages 10, 14, 15 and 16, were shot in a Houston home Thursday night by masked gunmen who police say may have been teenagers.

The masked men arrived at the house on the corner of Collier and Carrolton Streets, just near Brays Bayou in southeast Houston, shortly after 9 p.m.

According to Deputy Police Chief Megan Howard, some family members were outside when they came to the door and asked people to come out of the house.

“Family members were outside, saw them coming, saw them with the guns and tried to go in … Eventually the door was opened and we believe two of the men, two of the suspects, then fired pistols into the house,” Howard said.

They shot the ten-year-old and three teenagers.

One of the victims was shot in the stomach and the other three were hit in either the arms or legs, Howard said.

They are all being treated at local hospitals. Howard said it was a multigenerational household and other family members were in the house during the shooting.

According to police, the shooting was apparently targeted. Although the suspects were fleeing to steal food, they did not believe there was a danger to the public.

A reporter at the scene asked if the shooting was about a girl.

Howard said she could not discuss it because investigators from the aggravated assault and domestic violence teams were following up on leads they hoped would help identify and arrest the three suspects.

The police are also checking with neighbors to see if there are any surveillance videos.
