4 teenagers break into shop with car and steal several weapons

UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – Four teens ended up behind bars Monday after police say they drove a stolen car into a Clermont County store and then fled with several weapons.

This is just the latest in a series of robberies at gun stores across the tri-state area.

“I knew something was going on,” said Charles Hall, who was shopping nearby.

Shoppers around Sportsman’s Warehouse in Eastgate had to dodge shards of glass scattered throughout the parking lot.

“I was just going over here to pick up a watch and I saw Sportsman’s and all the glass everywhere. You can see it all over the parking lot,” Hall said.

The chaos on the floor and the boarded-up window were the result of a stolen white Hyundai that crashed into the store just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. The thieves managed to escape with several weapons. Police only learned of the crime when an alarm was raised.

After the thieves entered the building, they ran and flew out of the parking lot. They crashed a little further down Eastgate Boulevard. The officers were able to quickly catch up with the stolen car and arrest three of the four teenagers. But a short time later, the fourth was found and arrested.

Police believe all four juveniles are connected to similar burglaries that recently occurred in Newtown, Miami Township and Florence.

“Fortunately, no one was killed or injured, but it may have been because you couldn’t see behind the glass,” Hall said.

The store’s Facebook page said it was closed on Sunday for urgent repairs but would reopen on Monday.

All four suspects face a variety of charges, including theft of firearms from a federally licensed firearms dealer, a first-degree felony.

Police said all four are from the Cincinnati area and are being held at the Clermont County Juvenile Detention Center.
