The San Francisco 49ers have placed defensive end Drake Jackson on the reserve/PUP list, ending his 2024 season, according to NFL Transaction Wire. The former second-round draft pick struggled to make a big impact on the field, playing in just eight games last season before undergoing patellar tendon surgery.

Last month, head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed doubts about Jackson’s participation in training camp.
“With surgeries like his, they’re always big surgeries,” Shanahan said. “It’s hard to recover from. You never know how they’re going to react. We always know it can take a long time, and it takes a long time.”
San Francisco selected Jackson (6-4, 273) out of USC with the No. 61 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Last season, Jackson recorded seven tackles, including two for loss, three quarterback hits, three sacks and a pass defensed before his season ended, according to Pro Football Reference.
Jackson, 23, has recorded 21 tackles, including five for loss, nine quarterback hits, six sacks, nine passes defended and one interception in 23 games during his two NFL seasons.
According to the NFL Transaction Wire, in other roster moves, the 49ers have claimed off the injured list with compensation and placed wide receiver Terique Owens on the injured list after coming off waivers.
