After a strong start to the season with three sacks against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, Drake Jackson’s sophomore season ended after just eight games due to a knee injury. Jackson underwent knee surgery while out last season.
Now Jackson’s third season in the NFL is over before it even began. On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they would place Jackson on the reserve/PUP list, ending his 2024 season.

The former second-round pick from Southern California has recorded six sacks and 21 total tackles, including five tackles for loss, in his two seasons with the 49ers.
In a corresponding move following Jackson’s placement on IR, the 49ers signed defensive back Tracy Walker III to a one-year contract. Since being drafted in the third round of the 2018 draft by the Detroit Lions, Walker III has spent his entire six-year career with the Lions. Walker III has recorded four sacks, two forced fumbles and three interceptions in his career.
