A well-known hotel in downtown Charleston has expanded its retail offerings to include five luxury stores.

BURU, Norton + Hodges, Over The Moon, Short Court and La Ligne will join the existing stores at Charleston Place over the next few months, according to a press release.

Here is a look at the individual retailers:

BURU

Opening in late August next to the grand lobby, BURU is a small-batch clothing brand designed and manufactured in downtown Los Angeles using leftover fabrics and recycled trims. BURU is a family-owned business whose designer and founder Morgan Hutchinson creates exceptional garments for everyday wear. This will be the company’s first brick-and-mortar retail location.

Norton + Hodges

Norton + Hodges, a Charleston-based luxury brand, opens in September in the Meeting Street retail corridor, offering specially designed handbags, accessories, adventure and experience products that combine the wild, rugged nature of Africa with the elegance and style of Charleston. Founder Suzette Bussey created the company to reinterpret classic styles with bold accents using hand-selected natural materials. Guided by the principles of sustainability and empowerment, Norton + Hodges aims to employ 80% women in its supply chain, use sustainable materials in harmony with nature’s cycles, and support the protection of nature, craft and culture.

Over the moon

Also opening as an exclusive holiday pop-up shop in October, Over The Moon is an upscale e-commerce platform, wedding and baby registry, and editorial destination founded by Vogue.com editor Alexandra Macon. Filled with curated selections from beloved brands like Lingua Franca, Carolina Herrera, and Juliska, Over The Moon is designed for those who want to live their lives to the fullest. For this holiday pop-up shop at Charleston Place, the shop will offer a selection of gift items including exclusive Bauble Stockings, table decorations by Ginori, hand-painted ornaments by illustrator Riley Sheehey, and pajamas for the whole family. This will be the company’s first brick-and-mortar store.

Short space

Opening in October in The Charleston Place’s Meeting Street shopping center, Short Court is an upscale apparel and equipment brand for the discerning pickleball player who appreciates classic quality and modern design. Founded by Charleston friends and racquet sports enthusiasts Neil Thomson and Ned Johnson, Short Court honors a traditional tennis look for the modern player by combining classic white and grass green tones with modern styling and high-performance racquets. This will be the company’s first brick-and-mortar retail location.

The Line

Opening on King Street in fall 2024, La Ligne was founded on the timeless appeal of stripes as a wardrobe staple – always classic, always chic. The brand’s confident vision is the product of its stripe-obsessed co-founders – Molly Howard, Valerie Macaulay and Meredith Melling – who have more than 40 years of combined fashion industry experience. This will be the brand’s first retail location in South Carolina.

The retailers’ announcement comes as Charleston Place undergoes a major $150 million renovation by Beemok Hospitality Collection’s new design studio, Atelier Kim.

Beemok intends to create a “multi-phased redesign of the iconic hotel, transforming nearly every space, including the main entrance and arrival experience,” the press release states. BHC aims to maintain the vision of a “local, independent and owned hospitality company.”

“We are excited to bring such renowned local and national brands, most of which are women-owned, to Charleston Place,” said Becky Hubbard, general manager of The Charleston Place, in the press release. “These premium retailers will further enhance the Charleston Place experience for guests and our community.”
