On Sunday evening, five people were shot in Franklin Park. This “heinous act” marred the end of a festival, said Boston’s police chief.
Police responded to the shooting at approximately 8:43 p.m.
The injuries were not life-threatening, police said. Three of the victims were male and two were female, police chief Michael Cox said at a press conference.
There were no immediate arrests.
On Sunday, Boston’s Dominican Festival took place in Franklin Park.
“There were many, many witnesses and we need the public’s assistance,” Cox said. “If anyone has any video footage or anything like that, we really need help. Because we need to hold these people accountable for this heinous act. Shooting into a crowd of people.”
“You can’t come into our city and do things like this without expecting to be held accountable,” the commissioner added. “We absolutely guarantee that we will do that for this incident here.”
Cox said the shooting marred “a pretty successful” festival.
“This is what happens sometimes when people just do stupid things,” Cox added. “And that’s why we’re going to hold them accountable.”
