5 things you should know about Bass Pro Shops opening in Delta Township

DELTA TWP. – This week, Bass Pro Shops announced plans to open an Outdoor World retail store in the Lansing area.

The location will be the company’s sixth in Michigan, according to a press release from the retail chain, which offers fishing, hunting, boating and outdoor sporting goods and is aimed at “outdoor enthusiasts.”

Here are five things you need to know about the company and its plans for the new business.

It will be located in the area’s newest shopping center

The 80,000-square-foot Outdoor World store will be located in Delta Crossings, a retail complex west of Interstates 96/69. Delta Crossings is already home to several businesses, including TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Bob’s Discount Furniture and BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Earlier this year, Burlington, a retailer that sells clothing and home accessories, confirmed plans to move from its storefront on West Saginaw Highway to Delta Crossings. It is unclear when that move will take place.

The focus is on outdoor equipment, recreation

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stores sell hunting, fishing and boating equipment, as well as outdoor recreational items such as kayaks and canoes. The stores also carry clothing, bicycles and accessories, and camping equipment.

Founded in 1972, the company acquired Cabela’s in 2017. It also operates White River Marine Group, which sells fishing and recreational boats, and Big Cedar Lodge, a wilderness resort.

Look forward to an “immersive” outdoor decoration

“Designed as a tribute to the region’s great sporting heritage and a celebration of Michigan’s sportsmen and women, the store will build on the signature qualities that define Bass Pro Shops’ award-winning shopping experience by combining retail with entertainment, outdoor education and conservation,” the company said.

The store’s design will “reinforce its overall outdoor theme,” it said.

Dozens will be hired for the new location

The new store will employ “more than 100 outfitters who look forward to assisting customers in their outdoor activities,” the company said.

Details of these positions will be posted at www.careers.basspro.com/us/en as they become available.

When will the store open?

The opening of the new store is planned for “early 2026,” according to a company press release.
