BEACON-HILL — Groundbreaking Thai restaurant The King and I closed this month after 41 years in business. Owner Kent Nandhavan, who struggled with health problems for years, died in July after a fall, Boston.com reported, and Nandhavan’s children decided to close the restaurant after his death. “After he died, it made sense to close the restaurant,” son Jesse Nandhavan told Boston.com. “That was his vision and his legacy.” When the business opened in the ’80s, it was one of only a handful of restaurants in the area specializing in Thai food. Dedicated staff stayed with the restaurant for decades, contributing to its long-standing success, and celebrities such as the late Anthony Bourdain have dined there.

CHARLESTON — After a short nine-month stay, sustainability-focused cocktail bar Good company has suddenly closed. Owner Seth Freidus tells Eater that the bar — which was one of the first independent dining establishments to try its hand in Charlestown’s upscale new Hood Park neighborhood — wasn’t generating the revenue it needed to stay in business. Boston Magazine During its short run, Good Company was awarded the “Best of Boston” award as the best cocktail bar of 2024.

DORCHESTER — The Blarney Stonea legendary Boston Irish pub, served its last pints this month after 61 years in Fields Corner. But co-owners Ben Johnson and Dave Cawley, who also own the popular all-day eatery Milkweed Cafe in Mission Hill, will remain in the neighborhood. The duo plans to “bring a version of the (Milkweed Cafe) to Dorchester’s Morrissey Boulevard – ideally no later than eight months,” according to the Dorchester Reporter. In the meantime, a tapas restaurant called Acapella’s will open in the old Blarney Stone space.

DORCHESTER — Also in Fields Corner, Vietnamese restaurant Phuong Nam has closed after two years, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. A new owner has taken over the space and plans to open another restaurant very soon, on September 1st, although no details have been released yet on which restaurant it will be.

Williams is closing the restaurant for a few months to convert it into the fourth Boston-area location of his popular Italian spot Mida, which will open in October.

NORTHERN END — Another long-standing restaurant, a regular haunt on Hanover Street Dolce Vita Restaurantclosed its doors this month after 34 years in business.
