6abc’s Chris Sowers is leaving Philadelphia for WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Veteran meteorologist Chris Sowers leaves 6abc after 13 years to take a job in West Palm Beach.

Sowers announced the move to the ABC affiliate station on Facebook on Friday.

“A huge opportunity has come up and I will be joining the talented weather team at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida in October,” Sowers wrote. “This is a chance for me to finally get away from working on weekends. I’m excited to be working in one of the busiest weather markets in the entire country!”

Sowers joined Action News in 2011 and broadcast on weekends between early morning and afternoon hours. Sowers was known for his active social media presence as well as his viral “dungeon segments” that he broadcast from his basement.

Cecily Tynan, one of Sowers’ fellow meteorologists at the station, responded to Sowers’ post, saying it was “so incredibly sad to see you go.”

“You deserve the best, my friend, because you ARE the best! I’m glad we’ve been friends for so many years,” Tynan said. “I’ll be checking your weather forecasts online. And don’t forget, I’ll be here a lot next winter to teach you how to water ski!”

Adam Joseph, another Action News weather reporter, responded, “Sadly, you are no longer with us, but you will always be one of us.”

Sowers’ departure is the latest shakeup at 6abc. Legendary host Jim Gardner ended his four-decade tenure at the station in 2022.

Sports presenter Jamie Apody and experienced reporter Dann Cuellar have also left the station in recent years.
