Late summer heat to tropical rains in the forecast

Late summer heat to tropical rains in the forecast

It’s another day of plenty of sunshine here in the Tri-State, but changes are coming as a tropical system forms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Skies will be clear this morning, with lows between 10 and 9 degrees. Thanks to the combination of sunshine and low humidity, it will quickly warm up. By midday it will already be 25 degrees, then highs will rise to 30 degrees by 4 p.m.

Tuesday afternoon

Tuesday afternoon

The night is clear and pleasant, temperatures cool down to 13 degrees.

Wednesday and Thursday are almost identical days with sunshine and highs around 30 degrees.

But then tropical moisture will rise from the Gulf states, bringing thick cloud cover over the Ohio Valley that could bring rainfall. This is associated with Hurricane Francine, which will make landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane. The remnants of this system will continue to move north, and we should see scattered showers and storms during the day through Friday.

Friday Rain

Friday Rain

The weekend should remain mostly cloudy and cooler, with highs around 27 degrees as the tropical remnants hang over the Ohio Valley. But rain is questionable. The weather models are not very consistent on the chance of precipitation for Saturday and Sunday. The latest models coming in this morning show no rain for the weekend, just clouds and cooling due to the hanging cloud cover. As promised, more updates on this will follow as the system develops today!
