Bad Bunny will work with Adam Sandler in the sequel to “Happy Gilmore”

Bad Bunny is on his next film adventure and accompanies Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2 — the sequel to the 1996 sports comedy and cult classic — The Hollywood Reporter announced on Tuesday (September 10).

There are no further details about Bad Bunny’s role yet.

Born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, the artist made his acting debut in 2021 as Arturo “Kitty” Paez – a rich, well-connected boy who gets into the cartel life – for the drug drama Narcos: Mexico on Netflix. He then switched to film, where he starred alongside Brad Pitt in High-speed train (2022) and Gael García Bernal in Cassandra (2023). Next up is Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller Caught stealing at Sony Pictures.

“It’s not over yet,” Sandler wrote on Instagram on Monday alongside a photo of Happy’s Boston Bruins jersey, signaling the start of production. “The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.”

The original Happy Gilmore tells the story of a failed hockey player who discovers his talent for golf and takes part in paid tournaments to earn money and thus prevent the foreclosure of his beloved grandmother’s house.

Accordingly The Hollywood Reporterthe upcoming sequel will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who also directed the 2019 film Crime Film starring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Original cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will return for the sequel: Bowen as Virginia Venit, Happy’s lover, and McDonald as Shooter McGavin, an arrogant golfer and villain of the film.

To The Tonight Show Last month, Sandler confirmed that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce was in Happy Gilmore 2 too. “Travis has… he mentioned it, so we have something nice for Travis,” Sandler said of the appearance Kelce publicly pined for earlier this year. “He’s coming over. He’s a very nice guy. You would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and so funny.”

The screenplay was co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy and will be produced by Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds. Dennis Dugan, who directed the original film, will serve as executive producer along with Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch and Barry Bernardi.
