Taylor Swift seems to be “cynical” about politics
“The idea that she remains silent would make her earlier statement seem cynical at a more opportune time,” D’Addario writes in his report as Harris and Trump take the debate podium. But with the big election looming on November 5, Swift hasn’t said much. Her recent moves, such as her silence on Donald Trump’s use of AI imagery and her close friendship with Brittany Mahomes, who has faced much criticism for her support of Trump, suggest she should be cautious in her moves.

Political experts believe Swift’s endorsement could change the course of the US election as she has a huge fan base that spans all sizes, ages, races and genders. “It would be unfortunate if her involvement in the world of politics were just another of her eras and she were ready to break away from it,” the author claims.
She supported two Democratic candidates in Tennessee when the “Cruel Summer” singer was just 14 years old. In 2019, she released her album “Lover,” which featured songs that seemed to support the rights of the LGBTQ community, although this is still controversial. In 2020, she supported Joe Biden and publicly criticized Trump’s administration.

Some speculate that Swift’s silence may be strategic, to avoid potential backlash or protect her career. “There is little to nothing the world’s most famous artist does without intention and forethought,” D’Addario wrote. With Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour running until December, after the election, it’s possible that it could be risky for her to comment on a controversial campaign, the author believes.

D’Addario noted that her previous political activities, which were featured in the Miss Americana documentary, occurred when she was unsure about her music career. Now, as one of the biggest music stars of all time, Swift has a lot more to lose. “After Swift went from being a major artist to one of the biggest acts in the history of recorded music, the stakes are simply higher now.”
