It is time to Let Leon Bridges introduce himself again. The soul artist simply calls his upcoming fourth studio album Leonand he gives a taste of it with the serene sounding “Peaceful Place.” He shot the video for the song in Mexico City, near where he recorded the record, which is out October 4. He sings “I’m in a peaceful place” in the song, backed by bongos and handclaps and, of course, soulful guitar. In a statement, Bridges said it was the album he had been waiting his whole life to record.

“Leon has been a long time coming,” he said. “I started writing parts of it back in 2021. Gold digger sound. They didn’t fit with what I wanted to do with this album and I tried to move on. But I couldn’t get rid of them because they are a part of me. And, if I’m honest, also because I think these are some of my best work to date.”

“In many ways, Leon “I’ve been working on this album since I was a kid,” he continued. “This record is about simpler days. It’s about the time I spent in my beloved Fort Worth and the experiences that made me the man I am today. It’s soulful music in the truest sense of the word; it’s steeped in my soul.”

Bridges recorded the album in El Desierto, Mexico with producer and engineer Ian Fitchuk (Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rogers) and co-producer Daniel Tashian (also Musgraves). The artist said he promises stories about his home and childhood.

In 2015, Bridges said Rolling Stone that his mother made him perform under the name Lost Child at first. “My mother always told me when I got my hair cut or something, ‘Boy, you look like a lost child,'” said the artist, who was born Todd Bridges. “Later, I wanted a more professional-sounding name. A lot of people in college called me Leon, after the actor. He played in Cool races, The five heartbeats, And The temptations. People said I looked like him. I thought ‘Leon’ and ‘Bridges’ went together very well.”
