NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Timberlake is scheduled to make a new guilty plea on Friday in his drunken driving case in New York’s Hamptons, prosecutors said. Details of the plea were not disclosed, but a person familiar with the deal said Timberlake agreed to plead guilty to a less serious offense than the original drunken driving charge.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he or she was not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

Timberlake’s lawyer Edward Burke declined to comment.

The pop singer is scheduled to appear in person at Sag Harbor Village Court on Friday to enter a plea, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office confirmed Wednesday.

Timberlake was arrested in the village of Sag Harbor on the eastern end of Long Island on June 18 after he ignored a stop sign in the village center, left his lane and exited his BMW smelling of alcohol, according to police. The 43-year-old Tennessee native pleaded not guilty to the drunken driving charge.

At a hearing last monthA judge revoked Timberlake’s driving license in New York.

His lawyer Burke claimed that Timberlake was not drunk and that the proceedings should be discontinued.

According to police, Timberlake was stopped as he left a Sag Harbor hotel around 12:30 a.m.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, he could not divide his attention, his speech was slowed, he was unsteady on his feet and he performed poorly on all standardized sobriety tests,” police said in a court document.

Timberlake told the officer he had been drinking a martini and was following some friends home, police said. He was arrested and spent the night in custody at a police station.

The agent and other representatives for the boy band singer turned solo star and actor did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment on Wednesday.

Timberlake, a ten-time Grammy winner, began performing as a young Disney Mouseketeer, rose to fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC and launched a solo career in the early 2000s.

Sag Harbor is a former whaling village mentioned in Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby-Dick and is located in the heart of the Hamptons, about 100 miles east of New York City.
