Watch Sabrina Carpenter perform “Taste” and “Espresso” at the 2024 MTV VMAs

Sabrina Carpenter delivered a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night that was literally out of this world.

After being introduced by legendary singer Cyndi Lauper, Carpenter performed some of her biggest hits of the summer, including “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso.”

Wearing a silver, glittery outfit, the artist began her performance with “Taste” on a swing from the sky. After being lowered to the stage, Carpenter was joined by an alien and an astronaut, who danced around a stage that resembled the moon in space.

She later gave the alien a kiss on stage and was then greeted by an entourage of astronauts. They all danced in unison for the rest of the performance as she sang “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”

The singer was also nominated for six VMAs at Wednesday’s ceremony, including artist of the year, song of the year for “Espresso,” best pop artist, best direction and art direction for “Please Please Please” and best editing for “Espresso.”

Carpenter has achieved new success this year, especially with the release of her latest album Short and sweet last month, which ultimately became the first No. 1 album of her career on the Billboard 200 chart. Additionally, three of her songs landed in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Espresso,” “Taste,” and “Please Please Please” (which also became her first No. 1 single).

“I was never in the charts until recently, so it’s a new discovery, like … I’m interested. That’s not why I write music and it’s not why I will ever write music,” she said The Guardian in August. “It’s like the sprinkles on the sundae.”

The 2024 VMAs, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, took place Wednesday night at the UBS Arena on Long Island.
