Halsey walked the red carpet alone at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards after speaking out about her ongoing health issues.
Halsey, 29, is scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, which will take place at the UBS Arena in New York. She stunned in a red and black animal-print Versace dress that hasn’t been worn since 1996. She accessorized with Graziela Diamond Ascension Illusion Fringe earrings.
Halsey’s boyfriend, Avan Jogiawith whom she has been in a relationship since September 2023, was not at her side when she posed for photos.
In June, Halsey shared on Instagram that she was “lucky to be alive,” but did not immediately reveal her specific diagnosis.

Her post accompanied the release of her song “The End,” in which she chronicled her health struggles. “Every couple of years now a doctor says I’m sick / He pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / and then they put it on me,” she sings in the pop ballad. “And first it was my brain / then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I do apologize.”
She continues, “When I met you, I said I’d never die / But the joke was always on me, ’cause I’m racing against time / And I know it’s not the end of the world, but could you pick me up at 8? / ‘Cause my treatment starts today.”
Halsey later confirmed that she suffered from two other diseases in addition to her previous endometriosis diagnosis. “In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder,” she wrote on Instagram in June. “Both are currently being treated or in remission; and both I will likely have for the rest of my life.”

She added: “After a rocky start, I’ve slowly gotten things under control with the help of great doctors. After two years, I’m doing better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to rely on.”
In July, Halsey responded to the criticism she received following the release of her music video “Lucky,” which led to her being criticized for sampling. Britney Spears‘ song of the same name from 2000. “My own fans are undoubtedly meaner to me than any other human being on the planet,” Halsey claimed via Tumblr.
Halsey then expressed her regret about returning to music after a years-long hiatus. “I almost lost my life,” she explained. “I’m not going to do anything anymore that doesn’t make me happy. I can’t mentally afford it.”

In the midst of her health battle, Halsey, who has son Ender (3) with her ex, Alev Aydin — made Instagram official with Jogia, 32, in October 2023, a month after a source told We weekly that he had shown Halsey a lot of “support.”
