It’s official: Taylor Swift is the artist of the year!

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, September 11, the 34-year-old pop superstar was honored with the Moon Man as Artist of the Year, beating out Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Eminem and SZA.

Swift’s latest win was announced during a commercial break as the awards ceremony took place at New York’s UBS Arena. She also led the nominations this year with 12 in total, mainly for “Fortnight,” her Department for Tortured Poets Single with Post Malone. The star appeared in the video for the hit song Dead Poets Societyby Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles.

So far, Swift has taken home trophies for Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Song of the Summer, Best Direction and Best Editing – all thanks to her milestone year and the black-and-white “Fortnight” video.

Malone, 29, and Swift accepted the award for best collaboration together at the start of the show, with Swift thanking the 10-time Grammy nominee for his contributions to the duet and taking the “opportunity to thank and honor the people who worked so hard with me on this video.”

“There’s a very clear reason why everyone in the music industry loves working with Post Malone,” Swift said. “It’s because you’re so incredibly talented. You’re so versatile and you’re the most down-to-earth person.”
