Offer for $5 meals extended until December

Offer for meals extended until December

McDonald’s $5 meal consists of a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, a four-piece serving of Chicken McNuggets, and a small drink. The meal has sparked a battle for the cheapest meal among competitors.

McDonald’s $5 meal deal hit the fast-food chain’s menu this summer as a limited-time offer, but will now remain on the menu through the fall.

In June, McDonald’s introduced the $5 meal deal: You get a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, a four-piece order of Chicken McNuggets, small French fries and a small soft drink. The bargain combo deal “will remain and be offered in most local markets through December,” the company said in a press release on Thursday.

Wendy’s $5 meal deal and breakfast packages sparked a battle for the cheapest meals that escalated over the summer, involving fast-food chains like Jack in the Box and White Castle and restaurants like Chili’s and Olive Garden.

Why McDonald’s Meal Deal was a success

For McDonald’s, the introduction of the new dish has helped boost the chain’s popularity among lower-income customers most affected by higher food prices and has helped “change attitudes toward the brand in terms of value and affordability,” Joseph Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, said in July.

McDonald’s sold tens of millions of $5 meals this summer, it said in a statement.

“Together with our franchisees, we are committed to keeping our prices as affordable as possible. That’s why we are stepping up our efforts and offering even more ways to save,” said Erlinger.

Interesting fact about fast food: According to McDonald’s, 67% of the $5 meals were ordered with a McDoubles, while 33% ordered a McChicken.

McDonald’s offers beyond the $5 menu deal

McDonald’s has planned more offers for the coming weeks. One of them is still running: Free Fries Fridays, an offer where you get a free medium portion of fries with every purchase of one dollar or more.

For National Cheeseburger Day, a fictitious holiday on September 18, McDonald’s is offering a double cheeseburger for 50 cents.

Customers should also check the McDonald’s app, as they may find additional local deals there. Recent offers include: two Chicken or Sausage McGriddles for $3.99, any size Sausage Biscuits or Iced Coffee (in Southern California), or a 20-count serving of McNuggets for $5 (in Dallas).

“Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a midnight snack, we want everyone to find the food they love at a price that’s just right for them,” Erlinger said. “Extending the $5 meal deal and the other deals we’re announcing for our fall lineup are just a few of the ways we’re working hard to provide great meals at a fair price.”
