The father of a junior doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata has accused the West Bengal government of trying to cover up the truth. He alleged that both the hospital and the authority were conspiring to conceal the truth and expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation.

More than a month after his daughter’s death, the father is still dismayed by the unanswered questions about the incident. “I can’t sleep, we are plagued by many questions. Who will answer them and when, when the government itself is just trying to downplay the incident and cover things up? After all this, why shouldn’t I feel that there is a conspiracy?” The Indian Express quoted the father in his report.

He said the condition in which she was found clearly shows what kind of crime was involved. “Imagine being surrounded by doctors and police officers who are supposed to be experts, and yet we are being told that she apparently committed suicide,” the father said.

The victim’s family also alleged that the government was using the Durga Puja celebrations to draw attention to the festivities and thus divert attention from the case.

“One month after our daughter’s death, the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) is trying to divert attention from the case by asking everyone to return to the festivities. This is a deliberate ploy to divert attention from the investigation,” the father said in the interview.

The family also said the Central Bureau of Investigation, which took over the investigation, had pointed out possible tampering with evidence.

“There are more than one person involved. I expect the CBI will arrest people who are part of a larger conspiracy. The principal of the college and people from her department are involved,” said the victim’s father.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said it was still struggling to complete the investigation and uncover all the details that led to the brutal crime.
