Delaware dispatchers help rescue boat stranded in England: Here’s what happened

Police dispatchers in Delaware, a 911 caller in Albania, and a boating emergency in England – all separated by thousands of miles, but pieced together to form an incredible story.

It all started on a Wednesday afternoon last month when Dover Police Operations received an unusual call.

The caller came from Albania and reported that her brother’s boat was sinking in the English Channel off the coast of Dover, England.

Delaware police said the false call came after an internet search for “Dover Police Department” yielded their number.

“The family member thought they were calling Dover, England, but was actually connected to our agency here in the United States,” the Delaware agency said.

However, that didn’t stop Delaware dispatchers from helping!

One gathered important information while another began making international reports about the rescue of the boat.

“Just 15 minutes and 48 seconds after the first call, the Maritime and Coast Guard confirmed they were on their way to rescue the vessel,” police said.

Their heroic efforts paid off and led to a happy ending!

Police said they later received confirmation that the boat and all its occupants had returned safely to the port of Dover in England.
