If Alex Miranda were a character on Miami Vice, he’d be called “Baby Face.” Young Alex wasn’t even born when the cult series made Miami a star in the ’80s, but here he is, celebrating the show’s 40th anniversary.

Four decades later, Miami Beach and Miami come together to celebrate that SoFlo show. This weekend, the Avalon Hotel on famous Ocean Drive will be full of amazing events for the public to enjoy.

Do you remember this 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spider 365 GTS4? Well, if you guessed it from Miami Vice…

Olivia Brown: “It’s known all over the world.”

Alex Miranda: “Anywhere in the world.”

Olivia Brown: “This is shocking.”

…You know your victory in South Florida.

Alex Miranda: “What is it like to see that everyone is still fascinated by this car?”

Olivia Brown: “I think it’s so damn cool.”

And “Miami Vice” star Olivia Brown …

Olivia Brown: “I’m not going up there. Are you serious? Do you see how people drive here?”

…You know, Detective Trudy Joplin…

Olivia Brown: “I was tough, but I would have been too nervous to be a real police officer.”

…now owns one of them.

Olivia Brown: “I don’t think I’m going to be driving around in a car at 67 – I’d say my age – and have ‘Booty Trudy’ written on the side. No.”

And she’s in town with the top down to take part in the 40th anniversary celebrations of “Miami Vice.” From Thursday to Sunday, the cast and crew will be celebrating the cult series.

Olivia Brown: “Saturday night we’re having dinner with Sandra Santiago at the Avalon, here on Ocean Drive. I’ll also be signing autographs at the Royal Palm on Friday and Saturday.”

We connect fans with some of the people who made it all possible.

Olivia Brown: “I love you fans. Please, please, please, please come over. We’re going to have so much fun.”

You can take the girl out of Florida, but you can’t take Florida out of the world.”

Alex Miranda: “Tell me about your life now.”

Olivia Brown: “I raised two daughters, great women, and I told them, ‘If you go to school, I’m selling everything and going back. I want the whole island life,’ and they said, ‘You sound like a girl from the Keys,’ and that’s why I’m in the Keys.”

We owe this entire reunion weekend to superfan Derek Hedlund…

Derek Hedlund: “You can sign up for the panels, the screenings and everything else. And you can even buy a day pass if you just want to go and meet some of the stars.”

…who, speaking of cars, wanted to take me on a tour of the filming locations.

Derek Hedlund: “First the Carlyle, where it all began.”

Alex Miranda: “Nice! Man, I love this car. So what shall we listen to?”

Derek Hedlund: “I have it under control.”

(Keyword: “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.)

Alex Miranda: “OK, so shall we go?”

Derek Hedlund: “Oh, yes, that’s right, great, yes.”

(Once again, “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.)

By the way, have you ever wanted to have dinner with Edward James Olmos? Now’s your chance. You can actually do that here at the Avalon Hotel on Friday. Sandra and Olivia will be hosting an event here on Saturday. We’re talking delicious three-course gourmet meals. Plus, you can meet the cast and crew; they’ll be there too.
