Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Eastern Atlantic

Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the eastern Atlantic on Friday. while the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking several systems over the Atlantic basin this week.

The hurricane season has reached its peak. Gordons, formerly Tropical Depression Seven, has gained enough strength to reach tropical storm status.

According to the latest NHC warning, Tropical Storm Gordon is located about 1,000 miles from Cape Verde. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

Where is Tropical Storm Gordon heading?

The NHC said tropical storm Gordon will likely remain over open water for the next few days.

It is currently moving in a west-northwest direction. Its speed is expected to slow down but it will maintain its west-west-northwest direction over the next few days.

“Currently, the official forecast calls for the system to be a tropical cyclone for the entire forecast period. Some recovery is possible on days 4 and 5 when the system reaches a slightly wetter, more unstable environment with lower shear,” the NHC said Friday.

It is currently not expected to affect the United States.

Area to be observed off the southeast coast of the USA

The NHC said a non-tropical low pressure system could form within a few days a few hundred miles off the southeastern U.S. coast.

Once the low pressure system has formed, subtropical or tropical development is possible early next week as the system moves north or northwest.

According to the NHC, the probability of development in the next seven days is low.
