Chiefs likely to be without playmaker in Week 2

Chiefs likely to be without playmaker in Week 2

The Kansas City Chiefs started the 2024 season in style, beating the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 and starting the season with a 1-0 record.

All attention turns to the Cincinnati Bengals, who face off at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2, but it looks like the Chiefs will once again be without Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on Sunday.

ESPN’s Adam Teicher said head coach Andy Reid has not officially ruled out Brown, but the chances of him playing are slim. Brown has been out since the August 10 preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During that contest, he suffered a sternoclavicular joint injury that was estimated to take four to six weeks to recover from. The Oklahoma product has not yet been able to return to the field and will likely be out of action for another week.

Reid rarely lets players play who haven’t practiced for a week after an injury, and Brown will be no exception.

Kansas City has shown that they can be productive even without a long list of game-changing players, but this season will be different.

In Week 1, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy both had over 45 receiving yards. They also have Travis Kelce, one of the best tight ends in NFL history.

The Chiefs will find a way to get through the slump, but at some point they’ll need Brown. He’s still an electrifying threat down low and has averaged 11.6 yards per pass catch in his career. As soon as he’s healthy enough, he’ll be back on the field, but that probably won’t be Sunday.
