USA lose third place match against Sweden

With 3:45 minutes left in the opening period, Malte Vass fired a shot from the blue line that deflected off Jakob Ihs Wozniak in the slot and bounced past U.S. goalie Ryan Cameron (Berwyn, Pennsylvania) to give Sweden a 2-1 lead.

Sweden increased the score 1:44 into the second period when Nilson took advantage after winning the race for the puck following an Eddie Genborg throw-in.

Team USA responded at 4:51 when Lansing carried the puck into the attacking zone, dangled it past three Swedish players and finished with a backhand shot to make the game 3-2.

Nilson gave Sweden a 4-2 lead at 6:35 of the final stanza when he scored his second goal of the game with a one-timer from the slot.

With 11:07 minutes to go, Novotny scored his second goal and extended Sweden’s lead to 5:2. Nilson fired a goal into the empty net with a minute to go, completing his hat trick.

Eight seconds before the end, Jesse Orlowsky (Brooklyn, NY) scored another goal to make the final score 6-3.

Cameron and Charles Menard (Fairbanks, Alaska) made a combined 24 saves as goalkeepers for the US national team.

NOTES: Team USA had more shots on goal than Sweden, 37:30… Team USA trailed 0:5 on the power play, Sweden 0:2… Matthew Lansing was named the best player in the USA
