NIDC digs 7 oil and gas wells in 4 months

TEHRAN: The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has completed drilling at seven oil and gas wells in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20 to July 21), a company official said.

According to Gholamreza Mahmoudi, head of onshore drilling at NIDC, 20,000 meters of drilling was carried out to dig the said wells, Shana reported.

Mahmoudi said three of the wells drilled were development wells and the rest were workover wells.

The official explained that the excavations of the said wells were carried out despite the extremely high temperatures in the region.

Earlier this year, NIDC Managing Director Hamidreza Golpayegani announced that the company had carried out and completed excavation work on 195 oil and gas wells since the late President Raisi’s government took office in August 2021.

Golpayegani said the drilling included discovery drilling, development delineation drilling and workover drilling.

The official also revealed that a total of 158,410 meters of drilling had been carried out in 9,562 operations over the past two years to dig the said wells.

According to the NIDC’s deputy general manager for drilling, the company dug 99 oil and gas wells and completed drilling operations in the Iranian calendar year 1401 (ending on March 20, 2023).

According to Masoud Afshar, the wells drilled included 15 development wells, five exploration wells and 79 work-over wells.

He said that 77 of the mentioned wells were drilled in the area of operations of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), eight wells in the fields under the supervision of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), eight in the fields under the management of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), two wells under a project and four in the area of operations of the Drilling Management Department of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

Over 67,000 meters have been drilled to drill the said wells, the official said, noting: “Extensive planning has been done to speed up the drilling operations and it is expected that with the reconstruction and modernization of drilling machines and equipment, we will see the deployment of more of the company’s drilling machines in the oil-rich areas of the country during the current year.”

He said that 63 of the company’s fleet of 73 light, heavy and extra-heavy drilling rigs were in operation or being moved, and estimated the number of rigs being moved at 20.

The NIDC Managing Director described the improvement of the company’s infrastructure in line with the Ministry of Oil’s programs as the most important achievement of the NIDC in the past year.

Addressing the company’s annual board meeting, Golpayegani said that NIDC’s performance in various operations, technical, engineering, support, service and central departments during the past year was remarkable and better as compared to the previous two years.

“According to the statistics of our planning department, the productivity index (of the company) reached 62 percent last year, while in 1400 this figure was 48 percent,” said Golpayegani.

The official pointed out the company’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and stated: “Although last year’s performance shows growth and an upward trend in all sectors, we should not be satisfied and will try to put the company in an even better position this year.”

In view of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)’s strategies to strengthen the presence of domestic companies in the development of the country’s oil fields, NIDC, as a key subsidiary of NIOC, supports such companies by lending drilling rigs and other necessary equipment.
