Press conference: Arne Slot’s verdict on the defeat against Forest in full

On the question of whether the international break was a factor…

It’s always hard to say, but I don’t think it had anything to do with it. The players came back strong and today I also saw a team that wanted to fight until the end. So in my opinion it had nothing to do with energy, it was just that we had a lot of possession and had to create something from possession. If you look at the goals we’ve scored so far, we’ve also scored quite a few from transition moments, from winning the ball and then from transition. But the other team often outplayed our pressing with a lot of long balls, so, as I said, we mostly got the ball in our last line. Then it wasn’t good enough today because too many individual performances in possession were also not up to the level I’m used to from these players.

When asked whether he sees today as a setback “for the process” …

Not for the process, but it’s a big setback. Losing a home game is always a setback, especially when you play against a team… we never know, maybe they’re fighting for Champions League tickets until the end, but normally that team doesn’t finish in the top 10, so it’s a big disappointment when you lose a game against them. However, today they were really well organized and structured.
