Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (PHSS), a cornerstone of rehabilitation and conservation in Miami, has announced the appointment of Chloe Chelz as its new Executive Director.

Chelz has lived in Miami for over 15 years and brings an understanding of the local community, a deep appreciation for wildlife and nature, and a strong commitment to PHSS’s mission and vision.

Chelz previously served as the organization’s deputy director and has been instrumental in PHSS’s operations for the past three years. She has served as acting executive director since January. Her continued leadership has been critical during the organization’s transitional period of growth, particularly in advancing the ongoing construction of the nonprofit’s expanded wildlife hospital and education center.

“On behalf of my Vice Chairman Marcus McCarthy and the entire Board, I congratulate Chloe Chelz on her well-deserved appointment as Executive Director,” said Chairman Robert Glidewell. “Chloe’s exceptional leadership and dedication have already made a significant impact, and we are confident that her vision will continue to advance our mission.”

In accepting the appointment, Chelz said, “I am deeply honored to take on the role of Executive Director at PHSS. This organization, with deep roots in Miami, has a very promising future as we continue to evolve and expand our services and engagement. I am committed to working closely with our Board of Directors and supporting our dedicated team to make a lasting impact. Together, we will continue to provide the highest quality care to our patients while fostering meaningful connections between the public and our native wildlife.”

Chelz’s appointment comes at a critical time for PHSS as it looks to increase its impact and reach within the Miami community through its new 8,000-square-foot wildlife hospital and education center, scheduled to open in late 2025. Founded in 1980, the nonprofit currently treats over 2,000 patients annually from more than 150 species of animals. With his wealth of experience and a clear vision for the future, Chelz is ready to lead PHSS into its next chapter of growth and excellence in wildlife conservation.
