Junior Nationals qualifier Brody LePine will swim for Purdue University next fall (2025)

Schroeder YMCA’s Brody LePinewho competed in the National Junior Championships in the summer of 2023, has announced his verbal commitment to compete for Purdue University beginning in the fall of 2025.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! Thank you to all of my coaches, teammates, and parents who have supported me along the way. Special thanks to the coaching staff at Purdue for giving me this opportunity. I am so excited for the next 4 years! All glory to God! #boilerup”

The Wisconsin native is currently in his senior year at Greenfield High School and trains year-round with the Schroeder YMCA, a top-ranked club team known for producing excellent backstroke swimmers.

Specializing primarily in butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle, LePine has qualified for and competed in numerous high-level competitions. At the 2023 Junior Nationals (LCM), LePine posted personal bests in both the 100-meter butterfly (55.91) and 200-meter butterfly (2:04.84), finishing 60th and 62nd, respectively. He also placed 122nd in the 100-meter backstroke (59.82) and helped Schroeder to a 13th-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay and a 16th-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

LePine also competed in the 2023 Speedo Winter Junior Championship in December, where he posted a number of personal bests, placing 29th in both the 50-yard freestyle (20.60) and 100-yard butterfly (48.69). LePine also placed 33rd in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.44) and 54th in the 100-yard backstroke (50.22).

LePine finished the 2023-2024 short course season with a stellar performance at the YMCA National Championships in April, placing 3rd in the 200m butterfly with a PB of 1:48.19 and 6th in the 100m butterfly with a PB of 48.54. LePine also placed 11th in the 100m backstroke, matching his personal best of 49.04.

As a Division I program in the Big 10 Conference, Purdue’s men’s team finished 8th at the 2024 Big 10 Conference Championships and sent three swimmers to the NCAA Division I Championships.

Although LePine’s current top times would not be enough to make the finals at Purdue’s conference championships, he is ready to make an early impact on the team as a Boilermaker. Last season, LePine’s time would have earned him 4th place in the 200 butterfly, 5th place in the 100 butterfly, 6th place in the 100 backstroke, 8th place in the 50 freestyle and 8th place in the 100 freestyle. These rankings may change over the course of the next year depending on which swimmers leave Purdue and which newcomers the team welcomes.

Three new recruits have so far announced their intention to join LePine in Purdue’s class of 2029: Biko Hooper-Haviland, Matthew Rose And Johnny Hines.
