Alabama’s plan to “show them what the SEC is all about” worked well

Alabama had something to prove on Saturday.

They heard the rumors after a lopsided Week 2 win over South Florida and headed to hostile Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin. While blocking out the noise has been a must in the past, Crimson Tide running back Jam Miller seemed to embrace the hate before heading to Madison this weekend.

The Badgers’ 42-10 dominance was the result of talent and anger.

“We heard a lot on the internet about our arrival in this stadium,” Miller said after rushing for 71 yards on nine carries, “and we just had to go out there and show them what the SEC is all about.”

This rare foray into Big Ten territory came against a program that is now outside the top tier of the league, but Alabama did nothing to undermine the SEC’s argument for conference superiority.

This was a Crimson Tide offense that struggled for much of a 42-16 win over South Florida just seven days earlier. They responded with a balanced attack (226 passing, 181 rushing yards) and scored touchdowns on six of their 12 possessions.

The outcome was never really in doubt after the Crimson Tide took a 14-6 lead early in the second quarter when they took advantage of Wisconsin fumbles for the first of two quick touchdowns.

Miller found the questions about Nick Saban’s time in Tuscaloosa motivating.

“People said Alabama was the best of the best,” Miller said. “This year, people really don’t think we’re the best because we have a new head coach and a new OC. We just have something to prove to people.”

A 32-point win in Madison accomplished that, at least for this week, Miller said.

However, this satisfaction will not last long, because on September 28th, after an open week, a visit to number 1, Georgia, is scheduled.
