Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers left the Longhorns’ No. 2 game against UTSA on Saturday night because of an abdominal strain, according to coach Steve Sarkisian.

Ewers went to the locker room in the second quarter and returned to the Texas sideline in civilian clothes before halftime. The redshirt junior threw for 185 yards on 14 of 16 passes with two touchdowns and an interception against the Roadrunners.

Highly touted backup Arch Manning replaced Ewers with 12:19 left in the second quarter. The former five-star recruit threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr. on his first snap and scored his first career rushing touchdown on his next drive with a 67-yard run.

Ewers entered the weekend as the clear favorite for the Heisman Trophy, 5-1 on ESPN BET after throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns in a win over No. 10 Michigan last Saturday. After his injury, his odds rose to 15-1 on Saturday night, while Manning’s Heisman Trophy odds changed dramatically, dropping from 150-1 to 22-1 on ESPN BET.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward emerged as the clear favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in sports betting on Saturday. Ward was listed at 5-1 on ESPN BET on Saturday night.

Ewers had already missed two games in the 2023 season due to a right shoulder injury and had to miss three games in 2022 due to a severe sprain of his shoulder joint.
