Arch Manning replaces the injured Quinn Ewers and makes great plays for Texas

Due to an apparent injury, Quinn Ewers left the Texas national football game against UTSA in the second quarter.

Arch Manning stepped forward.

On his first snap, the Longhorns’ backup redshirt freshman quarterback rolled to his right and fired a dart to wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., who fought his way into the end zone and scored a 19-yard touchdown.

On his third snap, he ran 67 yards around the right side and scored a touchdown.

These were the third and fourth career touchdowns for Manning, who completed 5 of 6 passes for 95 yards and two total TDs in Texas’s win over Colorado State in Week 1.

The pass to Moore gave the Longhorns a 21-0 lead over the Roadrunners, but UTSA responded almost immediately with a long rushing touchdown, cutting Texas’ lead to two points.

Manning, the son of Cooper Manning, is the grandson of Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints legend Archie Manning. NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning are his uncles.

He was the top prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and appeared in three games last season while keeping his redshirt. If Ewers is unable to return on Saturday, it would be Manning’s biggest opportunity since arriving in Texas.
