UFC President Dana White announced in an interview with Complex Sports on Saturday that UFC heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones will face Stipe Miocic on November 16 at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Jones and Miocic will headline a packed schedule that also includes a lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira, announced on Friday.

Jones and Miocic were originally scheduled to face UFC 295 in November 2023, but the fight had to be postponed after Jones tore a muscle in his chest during training.

Jones, 37, is one of the most dominant fighters in MMA history, boasting a career record of 27-1 with one no-contest.

He dominated the UFC’s light heavyweight division, winning it twice and successfully defending his title eleven times from 2011 to 2020, but was looking for a new challenge in the form of a move up to the heavyweight division.

At UFC 285 last year, Jones fought his first fight after a three-year absence, defeating Ciryl Gane to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title.

With Jones’ return, Miocic announced his intention to return to the Octagon after last fighting at UFC 260 in 2021.

Miocic, 42, is arguably the best heavyweight in UFC history. He has a 20-4 record with 15 knockouts and has held the UFC heavyweight title twice.

Miocic defeated big names like Alistair Overeem, Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier, although he lost his last fight to Ngannou by second-round knockout.

Given their standing in UFC history, Jones vs. Miocic is a true dream fight, as the result could either cement Jones’ status as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time or remove any doubt that Miocic is the king of the heavyweight division.

During Jones’ recent absence, Tom Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim UFC heavyweight title, which he successfully defended against Curtis Blaydes.

White expressed his belief that if Jones defeats Miocic in November, a major unification fight between Jones and Aspinall will happen.

To get to that point, however, Jones will have to defeat a UFC legend: Miocic is one of the few fighters who is his equal in terms of size and length: both are 6’4″ tall and over 7’0″ long.
