AUBURN, Alabama (WSFA) – After a tough home loss to Cal last weekend, Auburn looked to get back on track against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday night at Jordan Hare Stadium.

After a slow start, the offense got rolling and freshman quarterback Hank Brown threw four touchdowns en route to Auburn’s 45-19 victory.

The Tiger defense was a little shaky early in the game, but was able to limit the Lobos to just one field goal on the opening drive. When the offense took the field, we got our first look at the redshirt freshman quarterback, and Brown did not disappoint. He found Camden Brown in the end zone for a touchdown and took the lead.

The Tigers continued to struggle on defense and allowed New Mexico to advance 75 yards to answer back, with the touchdown coming when Naquari Rodgers smashed his way into the end zone from three yards out.

Brown showed no signs of slowing down as he and the Tiger offense got back on their feet. They put together a 75-yard run of their own, where Brown hit KeAndre Lambert-Smith for a huge 50-yard gain. Jarquez Hunter finished the drive with a two-yard touchdown run that put the Tigers back in the lead.

The team made a variety of field goals, and after a torrential downpour late in the half, Auburn led New Mexico 17-13 at halftime.

Auburn’s offense came back full steam after halftime, storming down the field to score again. Brown threw his second touchdown pass of the night to Micah Riley and the Tigers were on a roll.

After the defense intercepted one pass, Brown and his team returned to the field for more. He threw his third touchdown pass of the night to Hunter, giving the Tigers a commanding 18-point lead with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.

New Mexico’s offense found its rhythm again as they took the field and moved downfield, much like they did in the first half. It looked like the offense would stall and the Lobos would have to settle for a field goal, but instead they went for it on fourth down and it paid off. Quarterback Devon Dampier connected with Caleb Medford in the end zone, cutting the lead to 12.

Brown impressed again on the next drive, throwing an impressive fourth touchdown pass of the night to tight end Rivaldo Fairweather and Auburn was clearly ahead again.

Damari Alston scored another touchdown late in the fourth quarter to win the game. Alston broke free and ran 22 yards, stepping into the end zone and giving the Tigers a 26-point lead.

When the clock struck zero, the Tigers were victorious and the future looks bright under rookie quarterback Hank Brown. Next weekend, the young quarterback will get his first test against an SEC opponent when they welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to town. The game will be played in the afternoon and the kickoff time will be announced later next week.
