Arch Manning becomes Heisman favorite after 5-TD performance against UTSA

Arch Manning’s chances of winning the Heisman Trophy are now laughably slim after his five-touchdown performance against UTSA.

Manning threw four touchdowns and ran for another as a backup to Quinn Ewers in the No. 2 Longhorns’ blowout victory. Ewers left the game in the second quarter with an abdominal strain, coach Steve Sarkisian said, and did not return. Manning, meanwhile, threw a touchdown pass on his first play of the game and ran 67 yards for a touchdown on his third.

There is currently no timetable for Ewers’ injury, but that hasn’t stopped bettors from buying Manning’s Heisman futures. Manning is somehow now the No. 7 favorite at BetMGM at +1600. Ewers, on the other hand, has been off the list since Sunday morning after starting Week 3 as the Heisman favorite.

In case you were wondering, before the game started, the odds of Manning winning the Heisman Championship were +10,000.

Manning’s change in odds is a wild overreaction to what was essentially halftime football against an inferior opponent. Manning entered the game in the second quarter and was replaced by Trey Owens in the fourth quarter when the Longhorns were leading 56-7. Yes, he played a great game. But his actual odds of winning the Heisman aren’t in line with his chances right now, even with Ewers out for a significant amount of time.

Miami QB Cam Ward is now the +450 favorite after a big game against Ball State. The Hurricanes beat the Cardinals 62-0 and Ward completed 19 of 28 passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns before watching the end of the blowout victory from the sidelines.

Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe are the No. 2 favorites at +700. Dart threw for 377 yards and had three total touchdowns in the No. 5 Rebels’ 40-6 win over Wake Forest, while Milroe had five total touchdowns in No. 4 Alabama’s easy 42-10 win at Wisconsin.
