Disruptions: Trains from Manchester Airport to Piccadilly cancelled

Due to a switch, there are disruptions to train services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport this morning.

Due to the problem, trains between the two stations are cancelled and some routes are currently closed. According to National Rail, disruptions are expected until at least 11:15 a.m.

The operators affected are Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales. The Northern connections between Blackpool North/Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport and between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe, the TransPennine connections between Edinburgh/Glasgow Central/Saltburn and Manchester Airport and the Transport for Wales connections between Llandudno and Manchester Airport are affected by the switch disruption.

Tickets are accepted on the Metrolink between the airport and Manchester Piccadilly. National Rail said: “Due to a switch failure between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, some lines are currently closed.”

“This may result in train cancellations, delays of up to 30 minutes or diversions. Disruptions are expected to continue until 11:15 a.m.”

“Network Rail staff will be on site at 9:50am to assess and resolve the fault,” a statement on the website continued.
