Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Cleveland Browns: Halftime Thoughts

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Cleveland Browns: Halftime Thoughts

The Jacksonville Jaguars go into halftime trailing the Cleveland Browns 13-3.

What did we see from the Jaguars before halftime today and what should we look for in the second half? Read our halftime thoughts below.

Gabe Davis’ goals have brought nothing

The Jaguars just put together one of the worst halves of Trevor Lawrence’s career, with the former No. 1 pick managing just 16 yards on his first 10 attempts. Half of Lawrence’s first 10 attempts went to new target Gabe Davis, but only one was completed for 10 yards.

Brian Thomas Jr. saw no target and it just looked like the Jaguars’ struggling quarterback couldn’t get rid of Davis as his primary attack.

Thanks to the Jaguars, Deshaun Watson looks better than ever in years

The Jaguars have always been a game where teams have to “bounce back.” Teams or players who are on a losing streak can regularly look to the Jaguars as an opportunity to turn their fortunes around. That’s exactly what happened to Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in the first half.

Watson led a nearly 10-minute scoring charge on the Browns’ first drive of the game, holding the Jaguars defense in check with his legs and ability to throw on the move.

The Jaguars’ youth in the secondary was also clearly noticeable, as rookie cornerback Jarrian Jones allowed two big finishes in the first half.

Watson has been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL over the past three years, but it seems the Jaguars have delivered just what the doctor ordered.

Jaguars’ offensive game is not working

After three years under Doug Pederson, the Jaguars still lack an identity on offense. The Jaguars failed to gain a first down on their first two drives, with both the running and passing game looking weak early in the game.

And when the Jaguars finally got some momentum after Trevor Lawrence ran 33 yards to the Browns’ two-yard line, the offense ran into trouble again. The Jaguars had two incomplete passes, lost two yards on the running game, and had to call two timeouts to avoid a delay of game.

The whole operation seemed to go wrong.
