Former Detroit Lions third-round pick signs with Arizona Cardinals

DETROIT – The Arizona Cardinals promoted Julian Okwara, a former third-round pick of the Detroit Lions, to their active roster.

Okwara landed on Arizona’s practice squad after failing to make the main roster following a stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent the last four seasons with the Lions, playing out his rookie contract and recording nine sacks and 12 tackles for loss.

The 26-year-old has flashed pass-rushing but struggled to remain consistently available from his time at Notre Dame to his four years in Detroit. Okwara, the younger brother of former Lions pass rusher Romeo Okwara, had his best season in 2021, when he recorded a career-high five sacks and played in a career-high 13 games.

Detroit faces its first road trip of the season against these Cardinals in Week 3.
