49ers vs. Vikings – 4th quarter thread: The last quarter is a blast

Jordan Mason ran for seven and 22 yards after breaking through multiple tackles. That came after Deebo had a 28-yard gain. A well-timed screen pass to George Kittle put the Niners on the scoreboard and cut the lead to three.

But the Vikings had time before the end of the half and got the ball to start the second half. Nick Bosa had his first sack of the season, but Jefferson gained 16 yards on 3rd & 13 to keep Minnesota on the field. Darnold converted another third down attempt on a scrum, giving the Vikings manageable range for a field goal.

That made it 13-7. Both teams had bad plays and had to punt at the start of the second half. Darnold started to falter. He held onto the ball and looked like he was about to make a bad decision. Bosa got his second sack of the game at the start of the third quarter.

It was Purdy who made the first big mistake. He stared at his receiver and several Vikings defenders deflected the pass before the ball was intercepted.

On the ensuing drive, Kevin O’Connell made the perfect play where his wide receiver pretended to block, and the 49ers fell for it. Jailen Nailor’s completely unobstructed touchdown gave the Vikings a 20-7 lead.

Unfortunately, this would not be Purdy’s last turnover of the game. The ball inexplicably slipped through his hands and the Vikings were once again left with a short field.

As Aaron Jones ran into the end zone, Warner made his third spectacular play of the game. With his heels on the goal line, Warner punched the ball loose, saving a touchdown and the game.
