Fortune Well, a subsidiary of Fortune Magazine, has released its third annual list of the 50 best places to live for families across the country.

In this report, the healthcare content platform ranks Morristown, New Jersey, 9th on the list.

The rigorous list evaluated over 2,000 cities, towns, suburbs, exurbs, villages and townships with populations of 20,000 or more on five key themes including education, resources for older adults and financial health.

“In our analysis of more than 2,000 cities across the country, the cities at the top of our rankings scored highly on benefits such as health care, education, affordability and resources for seniors,” the report said.

Morristown has grown steadily over the past dozen years, and residents can reach New York City within an hour by train. The town is far enough away to serve as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle, but close enough for a weekend getaway or commute on a hybrid schedule.

Is Morristown affordable?

Morristown is part of Morris County, which has good job opportunities and a strong economy. According to the report, it is home to over 800 corporate headquarters in industries such as aerospace, financial services, insurance, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.

And it’s one of the wealthiest cities in the Garden State, with a median household income of over $180,000 and a median single-family home sales price of over $700,000 (as of 2022).

Morristown’s community welfare received a score of 75 out of 100 and its financial health received a score of 66 out of 100, according to Sharecare data.

What is the school system like in Morristown?

Morristown High School in the Morris School District. The school has a 90% graduation rate and is ranked 112th in the state. Because of its high ranking, it is entitled to display the US News Best High School Award Badge according to US World News and Report.

What resources does Morristown offer for seniors?

In terms of senior care and health care, the city is home to the only regional trauma center in northwest New Jersey and has 22 above-average nursing homes per 100,000 households within a 50-mile radius.
