Fire department issues update after substance sprayed in Worcester store

A SUBSTANCE sprayed in a shop on Silver Street was found to be harmless.

Last night (Saturday 10 August) at around 7.30pm, firefighters were dispatched to assist police after reports were received that a substance had been sprayed into the store.

No one was seriously injured and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Services confirmed that no dangerous items were found.

West Mercia Police have reassured the public, saying that this is probably an isolated incident and has no connection with yesterday’s incidents in Worcester.

West Mercia Police have now launched an investigation and advised people to avoid the area last night.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to assist police at 7.30pm following reports that the substance had been thrown at the Silver Street site.”

“We have sent teams to the scene of the accident to ensure safety.

“No dangers were identified and the incident was handed over to the police.”

Insp. Ed Shotton added: “We understand that police activity in the city centre is causing concern to people but I want to reassure you that these measures are purely precautionary while we investigate.

“I would also like to reassure the public that this incident is not linked to the events in Worcester yesterday and that we believe this is an isolated incident.”
