Weather in New Jersey: Tropical depression could hit the state with heavy rains. Latest forecast.

New Jersey will have one more day of sunny, dry weather on Monday before the weather becomes cloudier and more unsettled, with the state potentially hit by heavy rains overnight Tuesday into Wednesday as Tropical Depression 8 moves north.

Monday is expected to be pleasant with highs of between 21 and 25 degrees before cloud cover increases and temperatures drop to 15 degrees overnight. Beachgoers face a high risk of rip currents in the sea and on a Monday in mid-September almost all beaches are unguarded so swimmers should be very cautious when entering the sea.

In addition, a flood warning is in effect for the New Jersey coast from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. Isolated minor flooding is expected.

Tropical Depression 8 is located off the coast of South Carolina on Monday morning and, according to meteorologists, will slowly move inland over the Carolinas over the next few days.

There will be little sunshine in New Jersey on Tuesday, but rain should remain throughout the day and into the evening as our long stretch of glorious late summer weather comes to an end. Highs will rise to above 75 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible in South Jersey, especially in the areas south of Philadelphia, overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in its forecast briefing on Monday morning.

The tropical depression will not pass directly over New Jersey, although cloudy conditions and showers are possible on both Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will be 21 degrees during the day and 15 degrees at night.

According to the weather service, the probability of rain for Thursday and Friday is 20 to 40 percent.
