Sources – Chiefs’ Isiah Pacheco (fibula) is expected to be placed on the injured list

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to land on the injured list after suffering a fibula injury during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Pacheco had X-rays on Sunday night and will have an MRI on Monday to determine if he has a fracture and/or ligament injury in his ankle, sources told ESPN. He left Arrowhead Stadium on crutches and with a walking boot on his foot after Sunday’s 26-25 win.

Pacheco, 25, has been the Chiefs’ best runner over the past two seasons. On Sunday, he rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries and caught five passes for 21 yards. In two games this season, he has rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

The Chiefs also have undrafted rookie Carson Steele and veteran running back Samaje Perine. Steele has rushed for 27 yards this season. Perine, who was signed by the Chiefs after being released by the Denver Broncos on the cutdown date, caught a pass against the Bengals for 3 yards.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs’ best runner in 2020 and a former first-round draft pick, is on the non-football injured list. The earliest he could play for the Chiefs again is a Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints.
