Streets reopened following Mexican Independence Day celebrations in downtown Chicago.
The Department of Emergency Management and Communications closed access to the downtown business district to ease traffic congestion and set up checkpoints for residents and workers to enter the area.
Those closures were lifted early Monday morning, officials said, but Jackson remained closed after the conclusion of the El Grito festival in Grant Park.
The news comes a day after authorities closed numerous downtown streets and blocked exits from the Kennedy, Dan Ryan and Stevenson expressways, imposed access restrictions to the downtown area and set up checkpoints for residents, employees and emergency responders.
Access points in the Central Business District would be set up at the following locations:

Halsted/Chicago
Halsted/Washington
Halsted/Madison
Halsted/Jackson
Division/LaSalle
Roosevelt/Canal
Desplaines/Channel
18th/Condition
18th/Michigan
18th/Indiana
The city’s central business district is an area bounded by Division Street to the north, Halsted Street to the west, and 18th Street to the west.th Street to the south and DuSable Lake Shore Drive to the east.
